The trailer to this documentary touched me to the core!!! It’s shocking to know women all over the world loathe their bodies.
I want to rewind to a conversation I had this morning. I asked a friend how she was feeling because she was recovering from a fever virus. She said she was feeling better and she was ready to hit her workouts hard. She expressed that she was frustrated with her body and the workouts she had been doing, weren’t cutting it. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This is a girl that I completely admire. She’s young, she’s beautiful, and she has a heart of gold. I put my arms around her and began to cry. It broke my heart to know that someone I find beautiful inside and out, struggles with body image as much as I do.
Saddened by our conversation, I explained to a few of my other girlfriends what I had just heard. Ironically, the 3 of them were having a very similar conversation just before I had arrived. They all expressed their insecurities and how their insecurities affected their daily lives. Things such as, what they wear, their moods, what they eat, their social lives, and intimacy with their spouses. Society puts so much pressure on women to weigh a certain weight, to be a certain size , or to carry a certain shape. Unfortunately, we believe that we have no self worth if we don’t live up to these standards.
Psalm 139:14 says “I will praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” I can’t promise that I will not try/want to lose weight. But I can promise that I will do my best to stop the negative self talk. I will appreciate my body and what it’s capable of. And most of all, I want to be a confident role model for my girls. I want to teach them that we come in all shapes and sizes and as long as we’re healthy it’s what’s on the inside that matters the most.
We had been warned that the risk was “high” so we spent the day with my parents (they have a storm cellar) just incase. Keeping an eye on the TV, we knew there was a cell that looked ominous heading in our direction. About 7:00pm sirens began to sound and Faulkner county was under a tornado warning. We went to the cellar to ride it out. Fortunately, the massive tornado tracked a few miles east of my parents’ house. We heard lots of hail and wind but we came out safe and without any damage to our property. Residents just a few miles down the road weren’t so fortunate. If you think about it, please take a minute and say a prayer for the people that have lost loved ones, lost their businesses, lost their homes, and those still searching for loved ones.
I’m running in memory of my bro-in-law that lost his battle nearly 7 years ago, leaving behind my beautiful sister and their two precious kiddos. Running at my side, will be my bestie, who will run in honor of her daddy, who is fighting his battle now. Join us and help fight this beast known as CANCER!!!
I thought twice about doing this, let’s face it, I’d love for people to believe that without editing, I look like I do in the second picture, but I realized how insightful it could be. Before you compare yourself to a picture or person in a magazine, remember how much you can change a photo with a little editing. Be the best you you can be. Beyond that, thank God for you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Concealed carry license in the works!!!
Middle and top left targets were mine. The other two were the hubz.
Obviously I’m a better shot!!
Side note: why does my arm look huge and my hand look tiny?
I’m sick! Can’t workout! I’m eating the house down! The cold weather makes me want to eat even more!
I’m pretty sure this is what I’m starting to look like!!!!
Today’s self talk, during Need For Speed, sounded a little something like this: Pull back! PUUULLL BAAACCCKKK!!! Your lungs are going to explode if you don’t pull back. Meanwhile, my running coach is yelling through a bullhorn, “DONT PULL BACK!!!”.
I hate that she has mental telepathy!!!
Group ex instructor MVP!!! I love what I do. This was just icing on the cake!!!
Spent a chilly morning volunteering for the first annual Loco Marathon/Half marathon. It was put together by our local running club. I wasn’t sure how well it’d go over, because, it was held on our public walking trail. It was an out and back course. The full marathoners had to do 10 laps and the half did 5. The general consensus, though, was that it was fun. As a volunteer, it was great to see the people you were watching, come and go several times. I’ll definitely help with this one again!!
Need For Speed
Our fitness center started a class at the beginning of the year, taught by a certified running coach (and one of my besties), called Need For Speed. It’s a class that consists of speed work, once a week, for the first four weeks, followed by hill work, once a week, for the second four weeks.
I have gotten very out of “running shape”. I thought this would be a great way to ease back into it…Ha! Don’t get me wrong, the class was fantastic, but there was no ease, AT ALL!!! I’ve got a lot of work to do!!!
